Boost Your Business! Learn How to Dominate the Semiconductor Market with the Amended PLI Scheme!

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeITY) has made an important announcement regarding the approval process for establishing compound semiconductors and display fabs assembly and test units under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. According to a government notification released on June 10, the responsibility of granting approval will now rest with the Union Cabinet.

Previously, the MeITY Secretary had the authority to approve applications worth up to Rs 100 crore, while those exceeding this amount were evaluated by the Union Minister for Electronics and IT. However, the recent MeITY notification has brought about significant changes by eliminating this categorization. Consequently, the Union Cabinet has become the sole authority responsible for granting approval for all applications under the PLI scheme.

The notification explicitly states that applications will be appraised and evaluated individually on an ongoing basis. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will present the applications to the Union Cabinet for approval.

It is worth noting that the PLI scheme, officially known as the 'Modified Programme for Semiconductors and Display Fab Ecosystem,' was introduced in December 2021 and encompasses a total outlay of Rs 76,000 crore.
