 How the Govt Ensures User Protection in AI and Tech

Addressing concerns about potential job displacement due to advancements in artificial intelligence, the minister reassured that there is currently no immediate risk to employment opportunities posed by AI. However, the minister acknowledged the possibility of job implications arising from artificial intelligence within the next 5 to 7 years.


On Friday, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Minister of State for Electronics and IT, made an announcement stating that the government would be implementing regulations on technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) while considering the potential harm they can cause to users.

To address concerns about job loss due to AI advancements, the minister reassured that there would be no immediate threat to jobs from AI in the next few years. However, he acknowledged that job displacement might become a reality within 5-7 years.

Chandrasekhar emphasized that the government's approach to AI and regulation revolves around safeguarding users from harm. Since 2014, the philosophy has been to protect Indian citizens in the digital realm, ensuring that platforms operating in the country mitigate any harm caused to users.

The minister made these remarks during an event commemorating nine years of achievements under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. He also highlighted the significance of OpenAI founder and CEO Sam Altman's visit to India, indicating the country's potential in the field of emerging technologies.
